Micheline Palmer,
Program Coordinator

Micheline is the Program Coordinator and the coordinator for the summer recreation program at the Hutch School. She has been an employee with Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center since July of 2003 and worked in the Technology Transfer Office before transferring over to the Hutch School. Micheline was born and raised in Seattle, Washington and received her bachelors degree in Sociology from the University of Washington in 2001. She loves being a part of the school here at the Hutch and loves being around children of all ages. Her favorite book from her childhood is Wilson Rawls' Where the Red Fern Grows.

Maggie Chambers,
High School Math & Science Teacher

Maggie Chambers is the math and science teacher for the high school program, and the math teacher for the middle school program. Maggie grew up in Bellingham, Washington, and earned her degree from Gonzaga University. She taught high school in Connecticut for a few years, and now enjoys life back in the Pacific Northwest. Maggie loves to travel, cook, hike, camp, read, golf, and play games. She also co-leads Hutch School's day camp in the summer, through which she enjoys exposing students to all that the Seattle area has to offer. She loved reading poems by Shel Silverstein when she was young (and still does!).

Margaret Flatness,
High School Teacher

Margaret is the high school teacher at Hutch School. She grew up in Colorado and spent her summers in New Hampshire. Margaret received her bachelor’s degree in American Studies and Education from Colby College in Waterville, Maine and her master’s degree at Antioch University here in Seattle. Margaret began her teaching career in a small town in Maine and has since taught in Shoreline Washington, where she took a year leave to teach English in Costa Rica in 1997. Time away from school is spent playing soccer, knitting, running, reading, swimming, traveling and playing cards and board games. Some personal goals include learning to play the fiddle and continuing to learn and speak Spanish. “James and the Giant Peach” and “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” were two of my favorite books as a child.

Laurie Goble-VanDiest,
Social Worker

Laurie is a school social worker at Hutch School.  She grew up in Sumas, Washington and after living on the east side of Washington, moved to Seattle in 1998.  Laurie received her Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology from Washington State University and a Master of Social Work from Eastern Washington University.   Before coming to Hutch School, Laurie worked in a middle school in Seattle helping students cope with stress and loss in their lives.  Laurie enjoys helping children by getting to know their individual strengths.  When not working at Hutch School, Laurie spends time with her family, writing, doing home and craft projects, and relaxing with her cats.  Her favorite books from childhood are Ramona, the Brave and James and the Giant Peach.

Eileen Hynes,
Primary Teacher

Eileen is the primary teacher at Hutch School. She has taught K through third grade in both Seattle and New York City. Eileen received her BA at Kenyon College and her Masters at Bank Street Graduate School of Education.  In 2006 Eileen earned National Board Certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.  Having two children of her own, her hobbies have evolved to include activities enjoyed by the entire family - canoeing, gardening, cooking, reading, cross-country skiing and traveling. One of her favorite books to read aloud is The Story of Jumping Mouse, a legend that follows the mouse’s journey to the Northwest.

Ginger Moriarty,
Social Worker

Ginger is one of the social workers at Hutch School. Ginger grew up in the Seattle area and, aside from stints in Boston and London, has lived here ever since. Ginger received her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Psychology from Tufts University and her Master in Social Work from the University of Washington. Prior to coming to Hutch School she worked as a counselor in a Seattle middle school and a counselor in a girl’s residential program. When she’s not hanging out and hanging in with kids at Hutch School she enjoys most-things-outside, reading, traveling, and watching her chickens run across the yard. Ginger still loves to read children’s books, one of her favorites is Ooh La-La (Max in Love).

Christie Brown,
Middle School Teacher/Hutch School Adminstrator

Christie Brown is the Hutch School Administrator and Middle School teacher.  She has worked in schools for more than 25 years as a teacher and principal.  She holds a Bachelors degree from Central Washington University, a Masters degree from Seattle University, and administrative credentials from the University of Puget Sound.  Christie earned her National Board Certification in 2008.

Time outside of school is spent writing, creating art, reading, walking, gardening, and traveling.  Christie is often learning something new and is currently making handmade books and welding!  Two of her favorite books are Don't Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus and My Side of the Mountain.
